SPORTELUXE | Sarah Ranawake Posted on 05 Mar 17:48 , 0 comments

Sarah Ranawake is an accomplished writer, editor, shoot producer and creative consultant with a decade of experience and an impressive magazine pedigree. Throughout her career she has held coveted positions at some of Australia’s leading lifestyle and fashion magazines including InStyle and, most recently, as features director at CLEO and in recent years Sarah has become increasingly passionate about all things health and wellness related. In January 2014, Bianca Cheah approached Sarah to come on board as her business partner and relaunch Sporteluxe. Together, with Bianca as creative director and Sarah as editorial director, they have elevated the website from a blog to a stylish online publication. As a partner of Sporteluxe, Sarah has introduced an exciting new editorial direction and brought on some of Australia’s leading names in health, fitness, wellness and lifestyle as expert contributors. xx

What is the best part of what you do?

At the risk of sounding like a cliché, being partner/editorial director of Sporteluxe is literally my dream job. When Bianca first approached me to come on board as her business partner it seemed like such a perfect fit because we’re both equally passionate about all things health and fitness related. Every day we get to come into the Sporteluxe office and create content that inspires and empowers people to improve their wellness and live their best lives. What could be better than that?!

 What's your daily beauty ritual?

I’m a big fan of natural oils – both for my face and my body. My good friend Lola Berry, who is also a contributor for Sporteluxe, recently created this cold-pressed natural oil blend called OSCAR Youth Elixir [] which contains oils like rosehip and macadamia and is hands down the best face oil I have EVER tried. And I’ve tried lots. And I love slathering my body in coconut oil after a shower before I jump into bed at night. It also doubles as a hair mask and make-up remover when needed.

How would you describe your style?

Relaxed and low key with a bit of a tendency towards being either a little sporty or a little bohemian (depending on what I’m doing doing).

Biggest fashion splurge?

Before Sporteluxe I would definitely have said active wear! However, these days I’m lucky enough to be gifted lots of amazing active wear – and my bank balance is very happy about it!

I'll never leave home without...?

I’m not known for travelling light so I am always carrying copious amounts of things in my bag! Aside from the obvious (phone, wallet, keys etc) I always face oil in my bag and am often toting around gym gear as well.

I feel happiest when..?

I’m fully present and in the moment. It could be after a meditation, during a yoga class, down at the beach or just spending quality time with people I care about. The common factor that makes those moments so special is mindfulness. Not letting my phone or other things distract me from appreciating exactly where I am, what I am doing and who I am with. Often easier said that done I know!

What is your favourite Sydney/ Bondi restaurant?

For deliciously healthy eats I’d say Earth to Table in Bondi Junction or Egg of the Universe in Balmain. For more of an indulgent meal it would have to be Riley Street Garage in Woolloomooloo or Chiswick in Woollahra.

My perfect meal or dish?

Something fresh and healthy. I’m a sucker for amazing seafood prepared simply and served with delicious veggies.

I'm creatively inspired by...?

Anyone who is living their dream, following their passion and contributing something meaningful to the world. Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Post and author of Thrive (one of the best books I have ever read!) is one person who’s been inspiring me a lot lately!

Best advice I've received?

Ditch the comparisons and focus on yourself and your own journey.

My ideal weekend would be?

Spent with friends, family and my boyfriend. Time outdoors, fun active adventures, yummy healthy food…all the important things in life!

Top 3 tips for life?

Surround yourself with inspiring people. The kinds of people who lift you up and make you the best version of yourself.

Follow your passions and try to be as authentic as possible in every area of your life.

Trust your instincts. They’re generally always right.
